Fire Regulations

FIRE DEPARTMENT REQUIREMENTS
FOR THE CITY OF LONG BEACH

  1. Combustibles

Literature on display shall be limited to reasonable quantities. Reserve supplies shall be kept in closed containers and stored in a neat and compact manner.

  1. Compressed Gas Cylinders
    1. Cylinder of non-flammable gases may be used within the building providing the cylinder is secured in an upright manner.
    2. The use of flammable gases (Acetylene, Hydrogen, Propane, Butane, and LPG) are strictly prohibited inside the building.

  2. Cooking and Warming Devices
    1. Cooking shall be accomplished with the use of U.L. approved electrical appliances.
    2. The use of natural gas is acceptable only in that section of the exhibit hall outfitted for its use, and with U.L. approved appliances.
    3. Sterno may be used for warming. Proper precautions shall be provided for the safety of both the vendor and the viewing public.

  3. Electrical
    1. All electrical wiring shall be installed and maintained in a manner acceptable to the City Electrical inspector.
    2. Electrical wiring crossing an area accessible to the public shall be secured to eliminate tripping hazards.

  4. Flame Retardant Treatment
    1. All decorations, drapes, signs, banners, sails, acoustical materials, hay, straw, moss, split bamboo, and all dried vegetation (palm fonds, corn stalks, etc.) shall be flame retarded to the satisfaction of the Long Beach Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal.
    2. A State Fire Marshal’s Certificate of Flame Retardancy is required, or the ability to pass the Inspector’s field flame test.
    3. Caution: most plastic materials cannot be made flame retardant and their use is prohibited.

  5. Flammable and Combustible Liquids
    1. No flammable liquids are allowed in the building.
    2. When displaying a flammable or combustible product, the display container shall be empty.

  6. Vehicles for Display

    All motor vehicles, trucks, autos, motorcycles, boats, R.V.’s, and aircraft for display shall:

    1. Disconnect battery and tape terminals
    2. Have locking fuel fills caps or tape them closed.
    3. Maintain ¼ full fuel tank.
    4. Be inspected hourly for possible fuel leaks.

  7. Two Story booths shall be reviewed on a case by case basis. Contact Fire Prevention for further information.
